MARGARET BOURLAND

FORT WORTH -- Margaret Long Bourland, 89, died peacefully Monday morning, Sept. 7, 2009. Service: 10 a.m. Saturday at Agape Baptist Church of Fort Worth, 3954 Southwest Blvd. Interment: She will be laid to rest at 3:30 p.m. next to her husband, Vergal, in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery, Farmersville. Visitation: Mrs. Bourland will lie in state Friday at Robertson Mueller Harper, where family and friends will be received 5 to 7 p.m. in the Great Room. Bearers of their grandmother's casket will be Bradley Bourland, Jason Bourland, Richard Bourland, Rob Bourland, Michael Hester and Jeff Mason. Memorials: Consideration of contributions to Agape Baptist Church of Fort Worth, in Margaret's memory, is suggested. Margaret was born Nov. 13, 1919, in Farmersville, the daughter of Werther Boen and Mary Carver Long. After graduating from Farmersville High School, she attended Baylor University where she received a BBA degree. While at Baylor, she was a member of Alpha Omega's woman's club and permanent class officer for the Class of 1940. She was also a member of the Baylor Heritage Club and continued to be a loyal Baylor supporter throughout her life. After graduating from college, Margaret worked at the Dallas Athletic Club where she met her future husband, Vergal Bourland. They married in 1941 and moved to Fort Worth where he was general manager of Colonial Country Club until his retirement in 1981. During those years, she raised their four children, who were the center of her life. She was devoted to her extended family, friends and church. Mrs. Bourland was preceded in death by her husband, parents and brother, Jack Long. Her family wishes to express a special thank-you to VITAS Innovative Hospice, Edwina and Odet and Wendy and Melissa for their kindness and help through this very difficult time. Survivors: In addition to her children, Michael V. Bourland and his wife, Linda, Richard L. Bourland and his wife, Katy, and Mary Bourland Ware, all of Fort Worth, and Marti Bourland Mason and her husband, Jerry, of Farmersville, Margaret is survived by her grandchildren, Stephanie Daley and her husband, Gil, Bradley Bourland and his wife, Erica, Jason Bourland, Richard R. Bourland, Elizabeth Bourland, Robbie Bourland, Cheri Carpenter and her husband, Scott, Michael Hester and his wife, Amy, Jeri Lynn Pickett and her husband, Dale, and Jeff Mason and his wife, Emilie; eight great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Edwina Long; brother-in-law, Kenneth Bourland; and several nieces and nephews and their families.
