FORT WORTH -- Emory Ambrous "Buddy" Tanner Jr., 87, died peacefully Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2008. Memorial service: 3:30 p.m. Saturday in W. Ray Watson Chapel at University Baptist Church, 2720 Wabash Ave. Mr. Tanner's grandson-in-law, the Rev. Jason Whitt, and the Rev. Andy Pickens, minister of music, will officiate. Interment: Buddy will be laid to rest privately next to his wife, Wanda, in Laurel Land Memorial Park. Visitation: His family will receive friends 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. Saturday at the church. Memorials: Consideration of contributions to the preschool at University Baptist Church or to Homes 4 Good, 1915 N. Frazier, Suite 103, Conroe, Texas 77301, in Buddy's memory, is suggested. Born in Crossroads on Oct. 4, 1920, Buddy was the son of Emory Ambrous and Minnie Lee Bell Tanner. He was raised in Malakoff and served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. Buddy married Wanda Lee Noey on June 17, 1944. The couple moved to Fort Worth, where Buddy operated Parkway Jewelers on the city's near south side. Buddy and Wanda later closed the store on Eighth Avenue and moved to Westcliff Shopping Center where, together, they owned and operated the Westcliff Record Center. Mr. Tanner was a longtime member of University Baptist Church. He enjoyed bowling and especially loved traveling to the Valley where he went fishing with his son, Amby. In addition to his parents, Buddy was preceded in death by his wife in 2000. Survivors: His children, Melanie Tanner Tate and her husband, Mahlon, of Fort Worth, Emory Ambrous "Amby" Tanner III and his wife, Leslie, of McAllen and Kim Alan Tanner and his wife, Marilyn, of Greenwich, Conn.; grandchildren, Ashley Tate Flowers and her husband, Michael, Maggie Tate Whitt and her husband, Jason, and James and Garrett Tanner; great-grandsons, Everett Flowers and Henry Whitt; sisters, Coreine Tanner and Inez Tanner Green and her husband, Bill, all of Malakoff, and Loretta Tanner Petty and her husband, Don, of Fort Worth; brother, Carl Lester "Red" Tanner and his wife, Wanda, of Malakoff; sister-in-law, Lucille Noey Moore; brother-in-law, Bob Young, both of Fort Worth; and several nieces and nephews.
