After graduating from Mineral Wells High School, she went on to college at North Texas State Teachers College, now the University of North Texas in Denton. A Yucca beauty while in her freshman year, she met and later became engaged to Weldon M. Lucas, a student and athlete at North Texas. They married Dec. 24, 1932, and resided in Fort Worth, where Weldon, known as "Luke," coached in the Fort Worth Independent School District. In the mid-1940s he became a vice principal at McLean Junior High, in the '50s a principal at Stripling High School and in the early '60s a principal at Arlington Heights High School. Kathryn was a homemaker, spending her time raising two children and working at various volunteer functions and at their church, First Presbyterian Church. Late in Kathryn's life, she changed her church membership to Oakhurst Presbyterian in the neighborhood where she lived. She and her husband were longtime residents of the Riverside area of Fort Worth. She was preceded in death by her husband. ??? Survivors: Daughter, Lea Jane Bell and husband, Arthur, of Kerrville; son, Weldon M. "Buddy" Lucas and wife, Valerie, of Dallas; six grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
