Lawrence “Buster” Dixon

June 12, 1921 - June 29, 2006

Buster Dixon was born June 12, 1921, in Ellis County. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps. He was part of the Pacific campaign during World War II. After the war, Buster finished his degree at Abilene Christian College in Abilene, where he laid claim as an All-American football player. He received his master's degree from Hardin Simmons University, also in Abilene. He started his coaching career and coached in Vernon, Hillsboro and Carter Riverside High School in Fort Worth. He was never an assistant coach. In 1959, Coach Dixon was named Texas Sports Writers Association's high school football coach of the year. Following his coaching career, Buster served as both vice principal and principal at Carter Riverside High School, and principal at Western Hills High School. He was a member of Richland Hills Church of Christ. He was a charter member of Diamond Oaks Country Club, where he enjoyed many years of golf. He also was an avid camper, fisherman and craftsman. He took great delight and pride in his extended family. "Dad was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, who will be dearly missed by all. Our loving memories of Dad will never be forgotten. He was our anchor." ??? Survivors: Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 62 years, Evelyn; sons, Robert Dixon and his wife, Karalyn, and David Dixon and his wife, Beth; grandchildren, Jaynee McGuire, Rob, Katy and Allen Dixon, and Lauren Holland; and great-grandchild, Cameron McGuire. Memorials: The family respectfully invites friends who desire to honor his memory with contributions to Christ Haven Children's Homes.
