Leona Evans

January 30, 1910 - December 4, 2007

KELLER -- Leona Evans, 97, died peacefully at home in the presence of her family, Tuesday, December 4. Funeral: 2:00 p.m. Monday at Birdville Baptist Church 3141 Carson Road, Haltom City, 76117. The Rev. Dwayne Greene and the Rev. Randy Rudisell will officiate. Leona's five children will be the bearers of her casket. Burial: Following a committal service Leona will be laid to rest in Rose Hill Cemetery next to her husband. Visitation: The family will receive friends at Lucas Hurst Funeral Home 1321 Precinct Line Road from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday. Our loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, great-great- grandmother and treasured fried departed this earthly life to join her husband, son, and other family members and many friends in the eternal heavenly kingdom of the Lord. Leona was a member of Birdville Baptist Church and cherished her church family and especially enjoyed the secret grandmother club. She was a dedicated volunteer at several nursing homes for over 30 years where she visited the "young folks". The residents loved her and looked forward to her weekly visits. She loved them all and would take them gifts of bibles, sugar free candy, lap robes and other essentials they wished for. She was an expert at knitting and made many Afghans, lap robes and baby blankets for family, friends and nursing home residents. Her greatest joy was giving to others. Her love of children and her strong commitment to missionary work is reflected by her wishes that memorials in her memory be made to the youth activity fund or to the Lottie Moon Missionary offering in care of the Birdville Baptist Church , Haltom City TX. or a charity of your choice in lieu of flowers. One of the most cherished memories will be her sense of humor. She always said not to take life too seriously. The funny paper was the most important part of the daily newspaper. Her smile and laughter are emitting from heaven. Leona was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Robert L. Evans; son, David L. Evans; 4 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. She is survived by children: Louise Bearss and husband Steve of Hemet, Calif., Robert L. Evans of Midland, Evelyn Carol Winters of Glen Rose, Charles (Charlie) Evans and wife Patricia of Austin, Leona Dean and husband Tommy of Keller; 17 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; 5 great-great grandchildren.
