Lester Haines

December 24, 1921 - April 9, 2006

KELLER -- Lester S. Haines of Keller,TX, formerly of Lower Burrell, PA passed away April 9, 2006. He was born Dec. 24, 1921 to the late Charles and Augusta Haines and lived most of his life in Westmoreland County,PA. He was a loving husband, a devoted father and an adored grandfather & great-grandfather. His unswerving vision, love and guidance will be greatly missed. He graduated as valedictorian from St. Vincent College of Latrobe, PA. He served in the U.S. Army in Europe during World War II and was employed by PPG Industries for 38 years, retiring as the head of payroll services. Prior to his relocating to Keller, late in life, Mr. Haines was active in a number of community activities in Lower Burrell, including service in a number of capacities in Grace Community U.P. Church and the New Kensington Baptist Church, Junior Achievement of the Alle-Kiski Valley, and the Lower Burrell Lion's Club. ??? Survivors: Wife, Bernice E. Haines of Keller; four children, Kathy S. Janik of New Bethlehem,PA, Jeanette McElwee Osborn of Burbank, CA, Thomas McElwee of Colleyville, TX, and Curt Haines of New Cumberland, PA; two grandchildren in Texas, Michael and Thomas McElwee; and his sister, Mildred Kane and her family (of Export,PA).He was predeceased by his first wife, Betty, and two siblings-sister Sara J. Haines and brother C. Russell Haines.The family will receive friends at 9:30AM wednesday April 12 with the service following at 10:30AM in the Lucas Funeral Home in Keller. Another memorial service will be held Friday April 14 at 10:30 in the Lindsay Funeral Home in Harrison City, PA prior to final internment in Woodlawn Cemetery, Export, PA. In lieu of flowers, Memorial contributions may be made in his name to St. Vincent College, Annual Fund Office, 300 Fraser Purchase Rd. Latrobe, PA 15650-2690.
