Mr. Ralph T. Howell

Ralph T. Howell, age 89, of Coleman, peacefully went to be with his Lord on Sunday morning. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM Wednesday in the Allcorn Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. John Stanislaw officiating. Interment will follow in the Coleman City Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 6 – 8 PM on Tuesday at the funeral home. Ralph T. Howell was born April 12, 1925 in Sherman, Grayson County, Texas, the son of the late William and Ruby (Dickson) Howell. Following graduation from high school, he attended college and later he gave up his construction job at the C. F. Lytle Co. working on the Denison Dam project to become a bluejacket in 1943 and serve in the U. S. Navy during World War II. He married Edith Fay Lee in Garland on January 16, 1960. She preceded him in death in 2008. He had lived in Coleman since 1963 where he was the station manager for Santa Fe Railroad for many years retiring in the mid 1980’s. Ralph was very involved in the community serving on the Coleman Betterment Council, the Chamber of Commerce, was a past president of the Coleman County Swinging Stars Square Dance Club and later involved in round dancing. He attended the Downtown Men’s Bible Class, was a member of the Valera Baptist Church where his son pastors, and a member of the Coleman Masonic Lodge. He loved to play bingo and “42” and was actively involved in the Coleman Senior Citizens Center. Ralph is survived by his children, son, Melford Howell of Kopperl, daughter, Linda Denice Humphries of Kopperl, son, Ralph L. Howell of Coleman, daughter, Cecilia Howell of Brownwood, and daughter Theresa L. Schwartz of San Angelo. His step-children, Dora Jean Freeland of Fort Worth, Melinda Anderson of San Angelo, and Elizabeth Jones of Coleman. His special friend, Lorena Cullins of Coleman. 14 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. And sister in law, May Howell of Naples. He was preceded in death by a brother, Ray Howell. Arrangements are under the direction of Allcorn Funeral & Cremation Care of Coleman, Texas. Memorials are requested to be made to the Coleman County Senior Citizens Center.
