Tommy Karr

January 16, 1926 - October 31, 2007

He was the son of Thomas H Karr Sr and Fannie Lou Thomas. He was raised in the Oak Cliff section of Dallas along with 2 sisters (Charlene Fowler and Mary Chouinard) and 2 brothers (Bill Karr and Lawrence Karr). Tommy worked most of his life as a grocery man. He started his career in 1938 when he was 12, working for A&P Grocery Company. He proudly served his country during WWII as a platoon sergeant in the Marines. Tommy participated in the Peleliu and Okinawa campaigns as well as the occupation of China . He earned a Purple Heart during the battle of Shuri Castle on Okinawa . Upon his return to Dallas , he again went to work for A&P Grocery Company. In 1960 he opened his own grocery store, Busy Bee Grocery located on Ervay Street in downtown Dallas . After selling his grocery store, he became a truck driver delivering plants. At the age of 70, Tommy went to school and got his real estate license. He sold real estate and operated his own mowing business until 2004. Tommy is survived by:His wife of 64 years: Maxine Gore Karr; His children: Mike Karr and his wife Cathy Sue, Catherine Jean Karr, Janet Karr and her husband Randy Lovett, Lisa Karr and her husband Terry Adams; His grandchildren: Michelle Karr, Craig Karr and his wife Rachel; His great grandchild: Sarah Elizabeth Karr.Memorials: American Heart Association
