Harmon Fisher

Rod was born January 15, 1928 in Vernon, TX to Harmon W. and Pauline Rodgers Fisher. The family settled in Roanoke, TX where he attended Roanoke High School. He served in the Navy during World War II aboard the USS Los Angeles. After the war he worked at Shannon's Funeral Home, on North Main as an ambulance driver. He married Betty Jean Wittman on December 17, 1950, a nurse he met in the emergency room at St. Joseph Hospital. He joined the Ft. Worth police department on June 1, 1951. He worked as a Radio Patrol Officer, Communications Dispatcher, Accident Investigator, Motorcycle Officer, Warrant Office and Juvenile Officer. He then was employed as General Manager and Partner with Brock and Associates. He later worked for his brother-in-law, Marvin L. Wittman, Jr., at Mineral Wells Funeral Home selling Pre-Need Funerals. In 1980, he worked for Mission Life in Management and Sales. Later, he was hired by National Pre-Need Services and worked in the Public Relations Department for the state of Texas, where he met with Funeral Directors. In 2003, the Texas Funeral Directors Association presented Rod with a plaque "In Recognition of his Outstanding Contribution to the Community and Texas Funeral Service" and another plaque from the South Texas Funeral Directors Association, Corpus Christi, "For all his efforts in making our Regional Meeting a Success". Rod was a long time member of Haslet Methodist Church. He served as Chairman of the Administrative Board for many years. Rod and Betty raised one son and three daughters. God also blessed them with many grandchildren and great grandchildren. Rod was precede in death by his parents Harmon and Pauline; Step-Brother, Delbert Fisher; Brothers-in-Laws, James West, Marvin L. Wittman, Jr., Jimmy Wittman and granddaughter Tamara Nicole Fisher. Survivors: Betty Fisher, wife of 58 years; Children, Sherry and Gary Stephens, Betty and Wally Coulter, Cindy and Phillip Rodriguez, and Rod, Jr. and Debbie Fisher; Grandchildren, Patrick and Kelly Reeves, Michael and Shannon Reeves, Candace and Chad Wagoner, Harmon Rodgers (Chip) Fisher III, Alexandra (Allie) Nicole Coulter, Ty Colton Rodriguez, Michelle and Erik Eikner and 11 Great Grandchildren; Brother, R. Jack Fisher; Sisters, Marlene West, Juanita and Jay Cunningham, Toya and Tim Wren and DeOlva Calvert; Numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Pall Bearers: Dan Nance, Jeff Hicks, Steve Williamson, Marvin L. Wittman, III, Donnie Leonardo and Jason Ward. The family wishes to thank Dr. Nasim Akhtar, Dr. Ira Hollander, Dr. Mark Redrow, Dr. Evans and the staff of the 4th and 6th floor of Denton Regional Hospital for all their care and compassion and a special thanks to American Hospice for their loving care.
